Working together to deliver an economic boost to Shoreham's Western Harbour Arm

Developers, landowners and local authorities are to be brought together in an effort to ensure a reshaped Shoreham has the infrastructure it needs, while minimising disruption for the community.
We are forming two new groups with key stakeholders so that residents benefit from the Western Harbour Arm area's rebirth as a vibrant, thriving waterfront destination featuring sustainable, mixed-use developments.
An Infrastructure Delivery Group will feature partners including the NHS and West Sussex County Council, working together to plan and provide what is needed to support the growing community. This will include mapping out whether there are enough places at GP surgeries and local schools, as well as sustainable travel links.
A Developers' Forum will see landowners and developers better coordinate to minimise the disruption that construction work causes nearby residents, such as from noise and extra traffic congestion in the area.
It will also explore whether potential external funding could be secured, such as from Homes England, to make it easier to provide new open spaces for the community.
There is a severe shortage of housing in Adur. We've given planning permission for more than 1,100 new homes in the Western Harbour Arm area that are high quality and sustainable - and many of which will be used to house Adur residents who are currently on the council's waiting list for somewhere to live.
The Adur Local Plan and Shoreham Harbour Joint Area Action Plan form the development strategy for how we, West Sussex County Council, Brighton & Hove City Council and Shoreham Port Authority are delivering the transformation of the former dockland.
As well as providing much-needed housing and working to strengthen Shoreham Port to boost the local economy, there is also a need for more leisure opportunities and attractive public places. There will also be a riverside pathway and extra cycle ways to encourage people to swap their cars for bikes to get around.
The setting up of the new groups follows a review of the redevelopment of Western Harbour Arm that Cllr Steve Neocleous, Adur's cabinet member for regeneration and strategic planning, asked for when he was appointed to the position last year.

“The regeneration of Shoreham Harbour is an exciting project that is delivering an economic boost to the area now and for future generations with the creation of job opportunities across a range of different sectors.
“Using these brownfield sites to provide hundreds of the homes we need for our residents also helps keep our much-loved countryside free from development so our community can continue to enjoy it.
“I asked for the review of the redevelopment of Western Harbour Arm because I fully agree with residents that if we were to allow the building of more homes without the necessary infrastructure it would damage the quality of life of our whole community.
“The two new groups we are setting up will help ensure we get all the infrastructure we need. This is a complex but exciting project and working together with other agencies and partners we can focus attention on the issues and get improvements done.”
